Inspiration for the Creative Mind

The Deserted City

Designer: Kim Høltermand

This series, from Denmark’s freelance photographer Kim Høltermand, depicts the architecture and spaces involved in what seems to be a deserted city. These photos are both mysterious and intriguing. I enjoy that you can take what is being shown and manipulate it into your own story based on the fact that very little truth is presented as to location, material, purpose, etc with these architectural pieces. What’s even more interesting to me is the fact that Kim’s photography is a hobby…Kim works as a fingerprints expert in the Crime Scene Unit of the Danish National Police.

Snow Monkeys of Japan

Designer: Ron Gessel

In the Jigokudani, located in the mountains of Nagano, there lives a creature known mostly as the Snow Monkey. These friendly monkeys are used to being around people so it’s no surprise they had no trouble going about their business for the camera. These photos are fascinating looks into the facial mannerisms of these creatures.

Hotel Ambrose

Designer: Miklos Kiss

Miklos Kiss and Imprvd Design have teamed to create a brand revolving around an initial logotype created for the small Ambrose hotel, located in Montreal, Canada. The hotel occupies two 1910 Victorian style buildings which are the foundation behind the creation of a classic Victorian style inspired logotype. Other concepts based off the mark include wine bottles, door tag and other print collateral.

The Type In L.A. Magazine

Designer: Nicolas Zentner

I happened to be browsing recent works by Nicolas Zentner and came across the new project for Les Ambassadeurs Magazine. I’m particularly fond of the balance between type treatments and organization. It seems there’s a corporate feel to the magazine but each typography treatment retains a sense of experimentation. Yes, you want to read the text…but you also almost want to just look at it, without engaging in it’s literal meaning.

LouLou & Tummie’s Infographics

Designer: LouLou & Tummie

LouLou & Tummie, a Dutch illustration duo, spends their time building various colorful graphics and characters. Among many toys and character designs, they’ve also created some fun infographics for institutions ranging from IBM to Nike.
