Four Fifths Design

Inspiration for the Creative Mind

Nonspace Photography

Designer: Emily Grundon

I’m sure a lot of people may disagree with me on this one, but I strongly believe Emily Grundon’s Nonspace photography series is an extraordinarily successful series. Negative space, or white space in particular, is one of the strongest elements in any visual representation. It seems here that the idea of white space has been pushed to the boundary, flooding full compositions, but still retaining an engaging appeal. I’d imagine it has much to do with the straight edges, subtle shades, and strong balances created in each photograph. …Or maybe I just love white!

Ryan Atkinson’s Love 22

Designer: Ryan Atkinson

This project isn’t necessarily new, but it’s certainly cool to check out if you haven’t yet. Ryan Atkinson’s Love 22 product is a concept for a fashion brand. From brand to advertisement, these pieces encompass the idea of a fresh, clean look. Certainly a brand I’d look into. I happened to stumble upon this project when looking for inspiration dealing with modern geometric design elements. I suppose you might be able to see why this was a result.

TriMove

Designer: Mohammad Ghezel

Maybe it’s Tron inspired, or maybe it’s not. Maybe it’s possible, or maybe it’s not. Aside from the immediate speculation that comes with this concept, TriMove is presented as a concept of the future, representing an achievement mechanically and visually. We’ve seen three wheel vehicles but they all tend to be a conglomerate of the newest car and the newest bike, noticeably showcasing a lack for meshing elements of each portion seamlessly (at least in the visual sense). But not anymore. The three wheeled TriMove has the agility and aerodynamic styling you’d expect from a motorbike alone. It’s three wheels provide balance both when standing still and when on the move. Also, its three disc braking system means it would require less braking space, potentially resulting in higher standard safety without sacrificing the ‘cool’ factor associated with today’s sporty motorbikes. I suppose the only remaining important question would be, how comfortable is this thing?

A More Modern Element To Victorian Architecture Style

Designer: Luke Insect

Luke Insect has created a series of vibrant, psychedelic installations pieces that utilize Victorian window frames taken from reclamation yards. They’re being showcased under the bright light of London’s Idea Generation Gallery as part of the ON: Acid House Art & 20th Century Psychedelia show. The images are created by screenprinting directly onto powder-coated glass panels which are then inserted into the frames, just like any ordinary window. The exhibition runs until May 14th.

Against the Grain

Designer: 123Klan

Having spent this past weekend in Cape Cod, Mass, I found myself doing what I usually do when visiting the coast: eating great food, spending hours on a beach, and searching for awesome surf and skate shops. If you haven’t figured it out yet, I have a real love for boarding and surfing. As always, the month of May just makes me want to break out my longboard. So it pleases me on this Monday morning to see yet another awesome piece of inspiration having to do with skateboards. Hydro74 invitied 123 Klan to send over three skateboard designs and two laser engraved pieces (by Karvt). These boards are simply awesome pieces of design. What I enjoy most is the sole use of black. It allows for the wood itself to take the role of a primary color and really adds a boldness to the overall compositions. You can check out these pieces and others from talented artists such as Julie West and Munk One at the 1am Gallery in San Francisco (opening May 6th).
