Complexity Graphics Creates Chaos & Structure

Designer: Tatiana Plakhova (Complexity Graphics)

The Moscow based Tatiana Plakhova is at it again, creating insanely intricate pieces of what one might call ‘complex graphics.’ Best known for data-like visualizations, Complexity Graphics has created some fantastic works dealing with sound, data, augmentation, repetition, and more. More recent works, Chaos and Structure, are along the same lines, retaining the beauty that is complexity.

The Alphabet

Designer: Alessandro Novelli

A really cool animation through the alphabet that is formed by the representation of various typefaces (based on the current letter). It’s short, it’s sweet, it’s type!

Between the Folds

Designer: Green Fuse Films

As some of you may see, I haven’t been around to really publish any inspiration this week. I fell ill Tuesday evening, and remain fairly ill today. However, while resting up I sat and watched this documentary on origami. Needless to say, it fascinated me. It wasn’t the results of origami art that struck me, though they were amazing, rather it was the process in which one undergoes to land at the desired (and sometimes undesired) results. I immediately thought of the possibilities having to do with typography, particularly the possibility of letterform creation with single fold origami. For some inspiration outside of the computer screen, check this documentary out. Here’s the trailer.

Behind the Scenes with the Sartorialist

Designer: Scott Schumann with Tyler Manson

It’s no secret that The Sartorialist has come be known as one of the most popular names in the blogosphere. Scott Schumann is a photographer who went from growing up and playing sports to capturing and photographing some of the most opinionated fashion finds in the world. All of his photographic work is found on his blog, The Sartorialist. Check out this short video, produced by Intel, dealing with the making and sustaining of The Sartorialist. I personally enjoyed the video for the mere reason that I now know exactly how Schumann approaches his subjects…something never revealed through the blog alone.

Deconstruction Book

Designer: Johann Skierka

Because I can’t read German, I say for sure what this book is showcasing. However, because we’re all visual, there’s no problem seeing the craftsmanship put into the design of the book. This is an illustrative book showcasing various infographics called Deconstruction. The overuse of the color blue is actually beautiful in this case. The composition of forms and shapes make for immaculate demonstrations of information visualization.
