Composition of Mammals

Designer: Wataru Yoshida

Wataru Yoshida is a Tokyo born artist and designer whose work always turns out compelling. Wataru’s illustrations are no exception. I find Wataru’s series “Composition of Mammals” particularly well done. It showcases an interesting mixed composition of illustration and photography but does not fuse the two techniques together seamlessly, allowing for the photography to act simply as a background for glorifying the illustrations. However, it’s obvious the two techniques are chosen to match, photography portraying the exterior and illustration representing the interior.

Museum Typopassage

Designer: Erwin Bauer

These characters’ organic forms become even more engaging when viewed in the actual space.

Dark Side of Light

Designer: Danielle Tunstall

This extraordinary series by photographer Danielle Tunstall is not meant to sicken the viewer or revolve around gore, but rather, in her words, “simply make visual comments on life and the human species.” I think this series in particular is absolutely gorgeous.

Roscoe’s Home Brew

Designer: Zack Custer

HUB Collective’s Zack Custer has created an awesome letterpress beer label for an avid home-brewer. These particular labels allow the brewer to hand write on the label the type of beer brewed, it’s date, and its alcohol by volume statistics.
The new brew image is of course accompanied by some other awesome collateral works, from cards to apparel.

Print Processes at Their Best

Designer: Nando Costa

Nando Costa brings a series of subtle messages illustrated in six portraits. The message may be important however I find the printing process for these to be just as fascinating. Each has been done one by one with intricate detail. Each layer of ink relates to the other in such an intimate way…
