Four Fifths Design

Inspiration for the Creative Mind

Month: April, 2010

Erika Simmons Iris ‘Makes Music’

Designer: Erika Simmons Iris

American artist Erika Simmons Iris has created a series of illustrations based off the magnetic bands of audio and video cassettes. Each represents a different musical talent in great display.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Four Fifths Design is officially 2 years old as of today! I want to personally thank all my readers for their constant input and enthusiasm. I also want to thank the numerous artists, designers, organizations, collectives and companies who have continuously shown interest in Four Fifths Design, especially General Motors, American Apparel and KDU for their ongoing support, feedback and exclusive features.  2010 looks to be another promising year, and I will do my best to continue the growth of Four Fifths Design!

Cheers,
Patrick Branigan

Floppy Disk Post-Its

Designer: Burak Kaynak

This isn’t so much featuring an artist or designer but rather an ingenious idea by a designer. Burak Kaynak has created a Floppy Disk Post-It pad, which I’m surprised had not been done already. Regardless, they’re great and I want them. Badly.

Monochromatic Faces

Designer: Federico Erra

Here are some delicate but deep portraits by photographer Federico Erra. Repeating the face as the subject would make one think that after a few photos it would become less intriguing, but Erra really does a fantastic job of creating something special in each subject through black and white as well as monochromatic technique.

Want vs. Need

Designer: Erin Hanson

A fun series of posters from Erin Hanson that taps into our wants versus our needs. They’re brilliantly illustrated with satire and simplicity.
