Four Fifths Design

Inspiration for the Creative Mind

ANOVA

Designer: Jesper Bentzen
ANOVA is a one man design studio, run by Jesper Bentzen who specializes in concept design, direction and animation. Jesper’s work can be seen in many of the cleanest commercials and videos for clients such as Madonna, Sony, Vodafone, Snickers and more. Jesper also does static work as well. I highly recommend jumping over to the ANOVA website and watching some of the motion pieces, my favorite being “Invasion.”

Project M

Designer: Jason Castriota
Another awesome car concept! The long awaited Stile Bertone Mantide Project M supercar made its debut yesterday at the Shanghai Autoshow. The showstopper designed by famed Pininfarina designer Jason Castriota is a sleek, uber futuristic outlook on bespoke automotive engineering. The carbon fiber body enables the ZR1 engine to push the relatively lightweight supercar 0-62mph in 3.2 seconds topping out at 217 mph.

Much more information to be had at their site including a video.

More Than Meets The Eye

Designer: Alvin Chan
Alvin Chan is currently working for Nike Europe in the Netherlands. Alvin was kind enough to send me an update on current work being released with Ingrid Siliakus. Here is an amazing Nike Football retail event invitation. The event is being held at Camp Nou.

2015 Honda CB750

Designer: Igor Chak
Yes, another beautiful automobile (motorcycle) concept I’ve come across. I do love my transport concepts!

It’s the “2015 Honda CB 750″ by Igor Chak. The engine is powered by a four-cylinder liquid hydrogen engine. A six-speed dual-clutch transmission with electronic lurch and traction control. Electronic tuning by the onboard computer. I’ve decided to call it “Frank”. Hello David, Frank, aka CB750, is here to take you over the canyon top.

This 2015 Honda CB 750 is a predecessor to the 1970s-80s CB (pictured below.)

Front and rear electro-magnetic suspension adjusted, you guessed it; electronically. Sensors show readouts updating every 1/10 a second and can adjust everything on-the-fly. ABS, airbag, and steering damper. Rims designed to be sleek and aerodynamic. Radar technology to “sense an upcoming head-on collision and will automatically slow the bike.” – most of these features can be manually disabled to suit the driver.

Now, the on board computer, which can be controlled through a 5” OLED multi-touch display positioned right on the fuel tank. This is the brains of the bike. There are 3 menus: GPS, Drive modes, diagnostics mode.

GPS mode is like your standard GPS that will give you directions and etc, but it will be connected to the internet through Wi-Fi and 3G. This will enable you to find information on the go and implement it to your rout.

Drive mode: economy, race and standard. All can be electronically tuned. Diagnostic mode: lap times, gas consumption, top speed and etc.

Milan Furniture Fair – DesignBox

Designer: Tom Dixon, Front Design, 5.5 Designers
I was recently contacted by Katie Krause at WFG Media about a new project called DesignBox.

This year during Milan Furniture Fair, Veuve Clicquot is revealing DesignBox – its own exclusive eco-friendly gift box - and showcasing three interpretations of DesignBox by Tom Dixon, Front Design and 5.5 Designers. These collaborations are being presented as part of an installation called “Out of The Box” at Superstudio+.

These are the latest in a string of collaborations between Veuve Clicquot and some of the best names in the world of design including Andree Putman, Porsche Design Studio, Pablo Reinoso, Christophe Pillet, Karim Rashid, Fredrikson Stallard and Jason Bruges.

Here are some behind the scenes images at Front Design and 5.5 Designers in the construction process (courtesy of WFG Media):

The design and production of DesignBox includes a number of innovations that also reinforce Veuve Clicquot’s commitment to sustainability:
The box is mono-material – made of just paper – which avoids difficulties associated with recycling and certain fabrication processes that are often polluting. No plastic lamination (protective plastic film) is used in the box – with inks, glues and solvents representing less than 5% of the total weight of the product. The paper used comes from forests under management of the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council), a non-profit organization established to promote the responsible management of our forests. Micro-grooving reduces the usage of paper in packaging.

The DesignBox will be launched commercially in June 2009.
