Self Support

Designer: Simone Harbert
Simone Harbert created her An Lena chair as part of Parasites & Hybrids, a student exhibition at the Burg Giebichenstein College of Art and Design in Germany. The piece is a parasitic prototype, which cleverly supports itself by gripping into the masonry work of the walls it leans against. Harbert’s idea is that with lightweight and mobile furniture, urban landscapes can quickly be transformed into community spaces.

GPS Drawn

There are all sorts of creative uses for GPS, but here’s a fellow who says he sent a self-designed GPS “device” in a briefcase to DHL with express travel instructions. He plotted the shipment’s movement and ended up with the drawing you see above.

Dirtylipbalm

Designer: Ravi Vasavan
Australian Ravi Vasavan is a young multidisciplinary designer who currently works for Furst Media. Only being in the design industry for less than 2 years professionally, Ravi certainly provides inspiration for those just getting involved. Ravi’s client list includes Redken, K-Swiss and L’Oreal among others. Her work is known for incorporating vectorized design with real time photography.

Folding Lamp

“Folding Lamp” is made from a 0.8mm sheet of stainless steel pre-scored so all you have to do is fold along the dotted lines. In what order you choose to fold is entirely up to you making each piece a unique item.

Maybe Some Art Is Waste Afterall

Designer Honfay Lui calls it “Matrix.” I call it beautiful. The concept of creating a drainage system that is actually appealing is genius considering we associate waste, trash, loss and just disgust with such a system. Modern, sophisticated and quite impressive, the “Matrix” may bring new meaning to the idea of waste drainage.
